Dr. Buzbys ToeGrips

How Toe Grips Work

Dr Buzby’s ToeGrips™ are made of natural nonslip rubber material that grips the floor in a way your dog’s hard toenails cannot.

The cylinders slide onto a dog’s weight-bearing toenails, adhere by friction. ToeGrips create contact with the ground at the GripZone, just behind the bottom of the nail tip and provide instant traction for dogs on hard-surface floors and stairs, such as wood, tile, linoleum, marble, etc.

Dr Buzby’s ToeGrips™ are the only product on the market that use dogs’ normal biomechanics, by providing traction through their toenails. With this unique approach, ToeGrips provide improved mobility and stability, increased confidence, and proprioceptive stimulus.

Here’s how ToeGrips work to help senior dogs, arthritic dogs, and other dogs who struggle on slippery surfaces:

Dr Buzby’s ToeGrips™ are changing dog’s lives with these benefits:

  • Improved mobility and stability
  • Increased confidence
  • Reduced risk of slip-fall dog injuries

Safety and Success

  1. Be sure ToeGrips are right for your dog.
ToeGrips were designed for senior, rehabilitating, and special needs dogs. Dogs that scuff/drag their paws may require affixing the ToeGrips onto the nails. ToeGrips are not intended for healthy, active dogs.
  2. Select the right size.
Measuring your dog’s nails is essential for correct sizing. Improperly sized, ToeGrips may fail to help your dog, ride up the nail, or quickly fall off. How to select the right size for your dog:

Step 1: Wrap a piece of dental floss around the middle of the toenail.

Step 2: While holding the floss around the nail circumference with one hand, use a fine point Sharpie® to mark across both pieces of floss. This will create two points.

Step 3: Stretch the floss and measure the distance between the two points in millimeters.

Step 4: Repeat for all 4 nails on one front paw and one hind paw (not the dewclaw).

Step 5: Based on the measurements obtained (not the average), use the chart below to find your dog's size. Sometimes a dog will require a combination of two sizes.

Video Tutorial

  1. Here is a video tutorial on measuring.

  2. Apply to create the GripZone.
They need to be in the right place to work! See the pictures in each package to remind you. Download our guide here or watch our video tutorial.

  3. Monitor daily, replace when worn.
ToeGrips occasionally can shift up the nail towards the nail bed and cause harm to the skin. Be sure to check your dog’s ToeGrips daily to ensure proper positioning.

ToeGrips will eventually wear down and need to be replaced. Your dog’s size, gait, and environment will determine how long they last. On average, ToeGrips last 4-8weeks. Sometimes, you may need to add a drop of superglue to keep them in place. Watch our video tutorial.

FAQ

Are the Toe Grips right for my dog?

Toe Grips are designed for dogs that slip and slide on hard-surface floors indoors. Although Toe Grips can help dogs of all ages, they may be mainly appropriate for senior and arthritic dogs or dogs on a case-by-case basis, such as during rehabilitation after surgery or injury.

How do I select the correct size Toe Grips for my dog?

Finding the proper size of Toe Grips is essential for success. To ensure you select the right size, measuring the nail’s circumference is a must. You can view the instructions and breed sizing guide on our website for guidance. You can also follow the measuring instructions according to the video tutorial. Trimming your dog’s nails before measuring would be helpful to select the correct size.

How long do Toe Grips last?

Toe Grips typically last around 4 to 8 weeks depending on your dog’s size, activity level and condition they are in. The more abnormal your dog’s gait or the higher your dog’s activity levels is, the faster the Toe Grips will wear.

How are Toe Grips applied?

We recommend you watch the videos on how to apply Toe Grips step-by-step. We suggest that before applying the Toe Grips, soak them in alcohol for any length of time as this would help you to apply with ease.

How do I remove the Toe Grips dog nail grips?

Removing the Toe Grips is a straightforward process. Using your fingertip/fingernail, contact the top of the nail grip and slowly rotate it down the nail while stabilizing the paw with the other hand.

Should I cut my dog’s nails before applying Toe Grips?

Yes! Cutting your dog’s nails is recommended before applying Toe Grips. If the nails are too long, they may interfere with the Toe Grips’ ability to create that grip. In general, short nails are the best for healthy posture and gait.

My dog doesn't like having toes/ paws touched. How should I apply Toe Grips ?

If you are able to handle your dog’s paws despite your dog’s slight objection, then you should be fine. But if you are unable to work with your dog’s paws, there are several tips that might be helpful:

  • Tire your dog out before applying Toe Grips by going for a walk or having a play session with them.
  • Have someone to help you while you apply them. One person could help distract your dog or stabilize each paw while you are applying the Toe Grips.
  • Watching our instructional videos in advance may help you to gain a better understanding of what to prepare and how to apply the Toe Grips in one go.
  • Stay calm and confident during the task.

If you are still unable or unwilling to handle your dog’s paws, you may want to consider asking your veterinarian/veterinary nurse for help.

Will my dog chew Toe Grips dog nail grips off?

It is a common misconception that dogs would easily chew Toe Grips off. In fact, most dogs don’t even seem to notice them! We are aware that ingestion of Toe Grips is a concern, but it was confirmed by the brand and Dr. Buzby herself, that based on the size of Toe Grips and dogs, they should pass smoothly through a dog’s gastrointestinal tract. Overall, Toe Grips nail grips are FDA-certified non-toxic.

My dog ingested the Toe Grips, what should I do?

Toe Grips should be small enough to pass through your dog’s gastrointestinal tract. However, if you are concerned about this, please contact your veterinarian. It is important to use Toe Grips responsibly and to regularly check that they are positioned on your dog’s nails.

Can I use Toe Grips dog nail grips on my cat?

No. Toe Grips are not designed to fit the anatomy of the claws of cats.

Reviews

Buckee is not sliding on slippery floor anymore with Toe Grips on her back paws!

I put Toe Grips on my old tired retriever last night. Big improvement in mobility straight away. Thanks for suggesting them to us!

DR MICHAEL BRADLEY, STANLEY VET CENTRE

The ToeGrips were delivered early afternoon and the video you sent was of great help. Zoee is now sporting colourful toenails. She is much better on the tile floor as long she keeps herself upright, of course once she gives in to gravity and her toenails leave the floor she's down. Nonetheless as mentioned, she is much better indoors and had no issues on her walk. Zoee is learning to use her toes again on the hard flooring as she gains more confidence through the Toegrips! We are very impressed with the professional service, products and support you provide. Thanks again to the Paws In Motion team!
