Pain greatly impacts an animal’s wellbeing, general health and their ability to move.
Whilst your veterinary surgeon will prescribe a variety of medication to alleviate pain; physiotherapy allows us to combine several manual techniques and modalities to modulate pain.
IS MY ANIMAL IN PAIN?
Pain signs in our pets can be very subtle. Symptoms may include:
- Limping and lameness
- Reluctance to move/ walk as much as before
- Restlessness or behavioural changes
- Loss of appetite
- Inability to jump or cope with slippery surfaces
- Posture changes during toileting
physiotherapy allows us to combine several manual techniques (such as joint mobilisations and massage) and modalities such as laser, acu-laser, TENS and thermal therapy (heat or cold) to modulate pain. We utilise Canine and Feline pain score charts from Colorado State University to help us to better assess pain in your pet. We can also assess pain in other pets such as rabbits, by using similar scoring systems.
